Breeding Program Terms
If you are a breeder or planning to become one, this page covers our expectations for anyone placed with breeding rights from Royal Oriental Cattery.
Breeder Rights You Receive
- Full TICA registration with breeding rights endorsed (no pet/non-breeding restriction)
- Complete pedigree documentation going back 4 generations
- DNA panel results on both parents
- Naming privileges (you choose your cattery prefix on offspring)
- Use of our recommendation if you wish to mention your lines came from Royal Oriental Cattery
Welfare Expectations
We expect breeders we place with to maintain the same welfare standards we follow:
- Cats live in the home, not in cages (except for short medical isolation)
- Queens retired after 4-5 litters maximum, and spayed at retirement
- Maximum 2 litters per queen per year
- Studs and queens housed separately when not breeding
- All breeding cats DNA-tested for PRA, PKD, recessive markers
- Annual vet wellness for all breeding cats
- Kittens raised in family environment until 12 weeks of age before placement
What We Do NOT Allow
- Caged breeding operations or commercial mills
- Selling kittens to pet stores, brokers, or resellers
- Breeding queens more than twice per year
- Breeding without testing
- Inbreeding (parent to offspring, sibling to sibling)
- Selling unweaned kittens (under 8 weeks)
Reporting and Transparency
Breeders placed by Royal Oriental Cattery agree to send us a yearly update (informal email, photos OK) so we can track our lines. We do not require formal reports — we just like to know our kittens are thriving and our lines are being responsibly continued.
Our Mentor Support
For 12 months after placement, we are available for:
- Stud selection advice
- Genetic health questions
- First litter planning and coaching
- TICA paperwork support
- Conflict resolution with buyers
- Vet consultation when you need a second opinion
Breaches and Remedies
If a breeder we placed with violates these terms, we have contract rights to:
- Reclaim breeding rights (revert to pet/non-breeding TICA status)
- Pursue $3,000 per-violation breach penalty per the Breeding Contract
- Refuse future placements
- Notify TICA and the cattery community if welfare violations occur
